- What is ABA?
- ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is an evidence based practice, meaning that numerous scientific studies have shown its effectiveness. ABA uses principles of behavior to improve socially significant behaviors such as communication skills, play skills, social interactions, potty training and much more while also reducing problem behaviors such as tantrums and aggression.
- Does ABA work?
- ABA has been around for decades. It was first utilized with individuals with special needs in the 1960s. The reason why it is still around is that it has proven to be highly successful. ABA therapy has been endorsed by the United States Surgeon General as a treatment for autism due to the overwhelming amount of research showing its effectiveness.
- What does an ABA therapy session look like?
- There is no one style or program that fits all children with autism. Every child’s session will look unique because the child’s program will have goals that are determined based off of his/her unique needs. Each session will use a variety of evidence based techniques to teach these goals. However, all sessions incorporate fun and exciting activities to engage your child while he/she is learning. Staff utilize all of the awesome toys and the amazing gym when working with clients at Gym Jam.
- How often should my child come to ABA therapy sessions?
- The number of hours we recommend for your child depends on his/her individual needs. We will make a recommendation for hours after we complete our initial assessment. It is important to note that the more frequently and consistently your child receives ABA therapy, the more likely you are to see progress.
- What is my role as a parent in ABA therapy?
- As a parent of a child receiving ABA services you have a very important role. ABA is most effective when treatment is followed through by all individuals in the child’s life. We will provide you with parent training sessions as well as allowing you to observe sessions at the center.
- What is Speech Therapy?
- Speech Therapy is a treatment for speech and language impairments/delays in the areas of articulation, fluency, resonance of speech, receptive language and expressive language. Speech Therapy sessions are conducted by a Speech Language Pathologist in either a one on one or small group setting. Each session will address the child’s individualized goals.
- What is Occupational Therapy?
- Occupational Therapy is a treatment that helps individuals of any age and ability perform life and occupational skills. For children with autism and related disabilities this means teaching them age appropriate skills in the areas of fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, daily living, and sensory regulation. This might include appropriate play skills, handwriting, shoe tying etc.

- Yes, we currently accept most insurances.
- What ages does Gym Jam Therapeutics serve?
- We generally serve clients aged 2 to 12; however, if your child does not fall into this age range but you think he/she could benefit from out services please contact us and we can discuss how we can help your child.
- My child does not have an autism diagnosis. Can he/she still receive services from Gym Jam?
- While ABA, Speech, OT and Social Skills groups have shown to be highly effective with children with autism, these services are beneficial to anyone who needs help with behavior, language, motor skills etc. To see if our services are a good fit for your child contact us and tell us about your child.
- If my child is receiving more than one service at Gym Jam can they occur at the same time?
- Our staff take a collaborative approach to working with your child. Our BCBAs, OTs and SLPs will work together to determine the best approach to teach your child. However, we feel as though it is most beneficial to set up a specific time for each individual therapy. While these services will not occur at the same time we will try our best to schedule them consecutively if that works best for your family.
